Pro Sound Effects (PSE) has built one of the biggest libraries of music and audio for films, TV shows and games, with more than 1.2m sounds. Now it is looking to license that catalogue for AI training.
The company has signed a deal with Musical AI, one of the startups brokering deals between rightsholders and AI companies who want to license.
Musical AI stressed that PSE “retains full control over how its data is licensed and used” under the agreement. The news follows Musical AI’s $2.1m funding round in February this year.
“PSE’s catalog, with its sonic diversity and excellent metadata, is widely known as the go-to sound effects company in the business, making it a huge win for AI companies looking for good training data,” said Musical AI CEO Sean Power.
Meanwhile, PSE boss Douglas Price described the deal as “setting the bar for what must be standard—a model where sound effects are valued as essential creative tools, fairly licensed, and set up to fuel the future of AI audio innovation”.
